Super Fruity Granola

SuperFoods Granola recipe

Store bought granola is tasty, but often loaded with unnecessary sugars and preservatives. This SuperFoods granola recipe uses natural ingredients and delivers incredibly delicious results.

SERVES 12

Ingredients
1/2 cup millet
1/2 cup quinoa
4 cups rolled oats
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/4 cup flaxseed meal
1/2 cup sliced almonds or chopped walnuts
1 2/3 cups 100% apple juice
1/3 cup honey or maple syrup
3/4 cup chopped dried fruit

Directions
Preheat the oven to 300°F. Rinse the millet and quinoa well, and stir with the remaining dry ingredients, except the dried fruit, in a large bowl. Stir in the wet ingredients. Toss well, then spread on a foil-lined sheet pan and bake until browned, stirring occasionally, for about 30 minutes. Stir in your favorite dried fruits. Store in airtight containers.

Experiment
The beauty of granola is how versatile it can be. Experiment with these ingredients to create many tasty variations. If you don’t have millet or quinoa, use all oats. Use either rolled oats or a rolled whole-grain blend.

Apple juice is suggested in this recipe, but you can try other 100% juice blends like cranberry, mango, peach, pear, or pineapple; just keep in mind that some of these juices are more tart than others, so you may need to adjust the honey / syrup to compensate. Dried fruits that work well include raisins, cranberries, cherries, blueberries, banana chips, mangoes, papayas, prunes, peaches, and nectarines. Make sure the fruits you choose don’t have added sugars — they don’t need it.
