Description
This is wild Alaskan sockeye salmon at its simplest. Just a large chunk of delicious wild sockeye salmon. No added salt, no added preservatives, no added flavorings or colorings. The salmon in these BPA-free cans is pink-orange in color and it doesn’t have a fishy odor. It smells like good seafood should.
The meat of sockeye salmon is actually red but the cooking process changes the color to a pinky-orange. Pure Alaska Salmon Co. Redhead Wild Alaska Sockeye Salmon is caught in Alaskan waters and is cooked and canned in the USA. (A lot of Pacific seafood is shipped overseas for processing, but we prefer our Alaskan seafood handled closer to where it was caught.)
Wild salmon is one of the premier SuperFoods because it is one of the richest, tastiest and readily available sources of marine-derived omega-3s. Wild salmon is also a good source of selenium. By including wild salmon in your diet you can help build good cell membranes, lower blood pressure, and you may help your heart, eyes, and mental health.
Since this canned salmon is truly a chunk of wild salmon there are some bones and skin in the can. But this is a good thing because the bones are a great source of calcium. In fact, this Redhead Wild Sockeye Salmon from Pure Alaska Salmon Co. supplies 10 percent of your daily need. The bones are soft and if you mash them up with the salmon you won’t even notice they’re there. (If you really don’t want the bones, then try this boneless and skinless wild salmon.)
There are 13 grams of protein in a ¼ cup serving of this Redhead Wild Sockeye Salmon, and there are about 3 ½ servings in each can. Canned salmon is also a great source of vitamin B12 and vitamin D.
In general, wild salmon have relatively low concentrations of mercury. And the Marine Stewardship Council certifies Alaskan salmon as a “Best Environmental Choice.” All the Pure Alaska Salmon Co. salmon that we offer comes in BPA-free cans.
Many people don’t eat enough seafood, let alone the right kind of seafood. (Mercury laden fish and farmed fish are not good, nor is fried fish or fish cooked in butter). Often times this is because it is not always easy to find good fish locally. Canned salmon is the solution. It can (pardon the pun) sit in your pantry for years so you’ll always have it on hand when you want to use it for lunch, dinner or even hors d’oeuvres. You can add this salmon to greens for a quick salad, or use it on pasta for a great dinner.
